Following the decision made by the New England Patriots to move on from their longtime head coach, Bill Belichick, this offseason, most assumed he would end up becoming the new head coach for another NFL team for the 2024 campaign.
However, that surprisingly isn’t what ended up happening, as all of the teams with head-coaching vacancies around the league this year opted against filling the opening with Belichick.
So, with it now looking like the former Patriots head coach is likely going to have at least a year off from coaching in the NFL, some are wondering what he might do to pass the time.
Recently, Belichick’s son, Steve Belichick, appeared on the “Green Light” podcast with former NFL player Chris Long, and he shared how his father has been doing since his departure from New England (via ProFootballTalk on Twitter).
“I think he’s good… He doesn’t dwell, unless we lost a game and he needs to get on some guys. Eventually, you need to turn the page… He’s definitely pursuing some other stuff, whether it’s TV or hopefully a regular on the ‘Green Light’ or whatever it may be.”
Some might find this hard to believe, but Belichick would likely do very well as an NFL analyst on TV or for another media outlet.
He’s been around the sport and the NFL for so long that he’s seen basically everything take place, and obviously, he can share some of his experiences from leading the Patriots to six Super Bowl titles.
Having the 2024 season would also allow Belichick to make a better decision about where he might want to coach in the NFL next or if he wants to just remain out of the league for good.
The 2024 season will certainly be an odd one, as it will be the first without Belichick on the sidelines as a head coach or assistant coach since 1996.
