The New England Patriots have hired Brown Bears offensive line coach Michael McCarthy as an offensive assistant, MassLive’s Mark Daniels reports. McCarthy has been the Browns’ offensive line coach for the past five seasons.
Prior to coaching at Brown, McCarthy worked in the NFL with the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions. He also coached at Tulane, Western Michigan and North Carolina Central before joining Brown State.
Since taking the New England Patriots job in January, Jerod Mayo has focused on building a strong coaching staff with assistants.
Coaches joining Mayo’s staff include former Buffalo Bills quarterback Alex Van Pelt as offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach T.J. McCartney, quarterbacks coach Taylor Embry and Ben McAdoo serve as senior offensive assistants.
The Patriots are expected to name their entire coaching staff next week.
