Another day, another test project. But there is a big twist here.Instead of recruiting NFL prospects, we recruit coaches. For the pick order, NFL Yardbarker writers used the order of the 2024 NFL Draft, but we returned the first-round picks from Carolina, Cleveland and Houston, allowing each team to select a head coach.
In addition to active NFL team members, college and NFL coaches (including Tennessee’s Mike Vrabel and New England’s Bill Belichick) also joined last year. So stop telling the truth. Enjoy this latest tease. Remember: The current NFL Draft is April 25-27 in Detroit.
Meanwhile, the Carolina Panthers are under our watch… (In parentheses are entries for the 2023 regular season.)
1. Carolina Panthers (2-15) | Andy Reid | Going from a potential dynasty to the worst team in the league would be a surprising change for Reed. But the three-time Super Bowl winner previously inherited Eagles and Chiefs teams that won five games a season before joining and both made the playoffs in two years.
2. Washington Commander (4-13) | Sean McVay | After spending seven years (2010-2016) as an assistant coach in Washington, McVay returned to D.C. with multiple conference championships and a Super Bowl victory. He is widely regarded as one of the top talents in football and would be a perfect fit for a young quarterback like USC’s Caleb Williams or North Carolina’s Drake May.
Both are on captains’ radar for the 2024 NFL Draft. – Bruce Ewing
3. New England Patriots (4-13) | Kyle Shanahan | With New England likely to take a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft, bringing in an offensive coach like Shanahan would help the team’s rookie development and rebuilding process. The offense ranked in the top 12 in rushing yards in five of Shanahan’s seven seasons as San Francisco’s head coach, and the 49ers advanced to the Super Bowl in his third year at the helm. – The Dell column
4. Arizona Cardinals (4-13) | Mike Tomlin | Tomlin hasn’t won a playoff game with the Steelers since the 2016 season. That’s important and warrants criticism, but he gives the Cardinals something they’ve lacked for years: relevance. Tomlin has kept Pittsburgh in the playoffs despite playing one of the worst defenses in the league over the past three years, and would be a huge upgrade at the position with a healthy Kyler Murray. – Adam Gretz
5. Los Angeles Chargers (5-12) | John Harbaugh The Chargers recently drafted his older brother Jim, and Baltimore HC is even better for completely solving LA’s defensive problems. Los Angeles is 23rd in points allowed (23.4), and the Ravens are first in 2023 (16.2). – Clark Dalton6. New York Giants (6-11) | Jim Harbaugh | With 20 years of collegiate and professional head coaching experience, John’s younger brother has accomplished great things, including Michigan’s National Championship in 2023. Michigan and Stanford have a 118-46 collegiate record and a 44 -19-1. Harbaugh, who is breaking NFL regular season records, knows how to build a team and is not intimidated by the New York media. – Bruce Ewing
7. Tennessee Titans (6-11) | Brian Callahan | It may come as a surprise to many, but the Titans still have a proven winner in coach Mike Vrabel. He led them to the AFC Championship game and two division titles in six years. Callahan is GM Ran Carthon’s preferred head coach, and it would make sense for him to stay the course rather than bring in big names like Bill Belichick and Sean Payton. – Michael Gallagher
8. Atlanta Half Ounce (7-10) | Dan Campbell | The former NFL tight end built the Lions into a contender, and it’s easy to see his aggressive nature on display in Atlanta. At the very least, we can expect Campbell to use Falcons first-round quarterback Bijan Robinson more often in the red zone than Lions 2023 first-rounder Jahmyr Gibbs after the rookie finished the season with just 23 carries for 20 meters. , led the team with 37 red zone rushing attempts. – Eric Smithling
