BOSTON – The Boston Bruins dropped a 3-2 shootout to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night at TD Garden. Despite falling behind by two goals, the Bruins earned points with better effort and execution in Saturday’s loss to the Washington Capitals.”We played a very solid team game,” Bruins coach Jim Montgomery said. “They scored the second goal, but we still felt we could come back. Sometimes you lose in this league and you feel better about yourself.
It will happen. I was proud of our efforts.”The Bruins outshot the Thunder 38-25, but Boston failed on the power play and went 0-for-6. “Our power play has to come through for us. I can’t go 6-for-6,” Montgomery said. “It’s something we have to look at now.”Boston may not be using the power play, but they had nine drives.”I think it’s the best feeling I’ve had on the power play,” Bruins forward James van Riemsdyk said. “I thought we moved the puck well and we looked really good.
“This is something we can definitely build on and continue to work on.”The Bruins’ goal came on a late penalty kick, with Montgomery pulling Linus Ullmark off the net for an extra skater and Brad Marchand taking the lead. “That’s what happens when you’re in front of the net.” Van Riemsdyk said. “Whether it’s the puck or the forecheck, things like that. But I’ll take anything to score.”
