The New England Patriots are almost certain to select a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft, but they’re not the only team looking for their signal-caller of the future.
It’s amazing how competitive they can be. The Patriots have the Chicago Bears and Washington Commanders in the draft, both organizations likely to select a quarterback. The Atlanta Falcons, New York Jets, Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders are also among those in need of help at the position, though some not directly. But that’s a very large number of teams vying for a short list of prospects.
Once the executive, head coaching and offensive coordinator vacancies are filled, it looks like who will make the decisions on where these prospects will go. These decision makers do what they think is necessary to improve their team, but sometimes that means sacrificing the future. If we had our way, all of our top six quarterbacks would be here and give them a good opportunity for future success. Caleb Williams – Washington CommandersIf you’re expecting early success from your rookie signal-caller, one of the best things you can do is give him some continuity from his college days.
The Chiefs have the ability to fill the same role on their staff by hiring Kliff Kingsbury, Williams’ offensive coordinator at USC. Washington could also provide a weapon for Williams, as Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson and Curtis Samuel are a better group than any team in need of another QB.
He was able to lead a Chiefs offense that looked surprisingly capable last season. Michael Fenix Jr. – Seattle SeahawksIf you read the last two paragraphs, you can apply the same idea here. The Seahawks look to the future by hiring former Washington signal-caller Ryan Grubb on Friday and are poised to make a nice transition if they select college quarterback Penix. Geno Smith still has good football skills, but Penix could shut him down for a year before he picks up Seattle and leads a very capable offense.
JJ McCarthy-New York JetsMcCarthy could use some seasoning up front in the offense and what better QB from the running back than Aaron Rodgers? Regardless of your opinion of Rogers, he has proven to be a trusted mentor to some very accomplished successors. It also feels like this is more likely because of the Jets’ tendency to blow them up in front. Drake May – New England PatriotsThe Patriots need someone who can step into the system, learn quickly and improve the talent around him.
May should land where he has a good defense and is ready to do what he does best. It’s a match made in heaven.May gives New England everything Mac Jones lacks and has the athleticism, attitude and talent to help the Patriots turn things around quickly. Jaden Daniels – Atlanta FalconsDaniels is ready to go and there is no better offense for him than Atlanta. He can throw the ball to Drake London and Kyle Pitts and run creative option schemes through Bijan Robinson and the Falcons.
The fun factor here is off the charts.
Bonnix – Denver BroncosBroncos coach Sean Payton wants someone to run the offense the way he envisions it. Bo Nix needs to be turned into a system that reads minimally and makes the right decisions.Russell Wilson will always be the most talented player, but Payton doesn’t seem to want that. He wants someone like Nix.
