The Red Sox still have a chance to update their roster, but Boston manager Alex Cora has plenty of spots filled through 2024. It starts with Trevor Story, who is expected to start the season healthy for the first time since joining Boston. The Red Sox believe his presence will help everything else fall into place. “I think his business has the right impact on the people around him,” Cora told the media during his first press conference of the season at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Florida.
We’re going to be better with (Raphael Devers) and get Vaughn (Grissom) out there at second base. I think he can do it athletically. Now we have to inform him about everything that is happening there. “I think Tristan (Casas) played well in the second half of the season, but he didn’t play well in the first half of the season.”Boston primarily plays infielders, with Casas, Grissom, Story, Devers and catcher Connor Wong as starters.
Masataka Yoshida was also inserted into the lineup as the Red Sox’ designated hitter. The remaining question concerns the outfield. “It’s not a given, but I have a pretty good idea,” Cora said. “I think we’ll be a little more athletic and dynamic. Now we just have to play well and make the right decisions.”The Red Sox have a number of players vying for that spot, including Jarren Duran, Tyler O’Neal, Rob Refsnyder, Villere Abreu and Seddan Rafaela. Ultimately, Cora will limit his starting numbers, but most of his team looks set for next season.
