Boston College head coach Bill O’Brien is making his first coaching hire, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. New Eagles head coaches Rob Chudzinski and Steve Shimko will hire longtime assistant and current New England Patriots coach Will Lawing as their new offensive coordinator.
Advocate is a former UNC wide receiver who began his coaching career as tight ends coach (2009), running backs coordinator (2010) and offensive coordinator (2011-12) at Division III Juanita College before serving as an assistant at Penn states From O’Brien. When O’Brien left to become the Texans’ head coach, Lowing went with him.
He then spent three seasons as the defensive quality control coach, two seasons as an offensive assistant coach and two seasons as Houston’s tight ends coach. When Lowing was hired by the Texans, O’Brien said, “He paid his dues.” “He was a defensive guy. I hurt him a few years ago. He has an offensive background.
When he started coaching, he coached receivers and running backs. After that he worked on [Romeo Crennel’s] defense team.“He did a great job for us in terms of film, drafts, looks, team management, coaching and when we asked him to get a new offensive lineman or a new tight end. He did a variety of coaching jobs for us and I was very impressed.”The duo of Jordan Akins and Darren Fells combined for 70 catches for 759 yards and nine touchdowns during their tenure as the Texans’ TE coaches.
The next year, Akins, Fells and the rest of the Texans corners combined for 75 receptions for 913 yards and seven scores. I arrived in February and it is still cold in the north. But the excitement for the new season of Boston College Birdball is here as the team enters the 2024 season. The team is coming off its most successful 2016 campaign with a loss to Alabama in the regional final in Tuscaloosa.
Interestingly, a new coach will come to town to lead the team. Former head coach Mike Gambino left for Penn State College and was replaced by veteran head coach Todd Interdonato. The new captain spent 18 seasons at Wofford (16 as head coach) and built the Bulldogs into a very solid mid-major program.Interdonato brought an unusual style of play to Boston College, recruiting an athletic team that could aggressively run the bases in anticipation of Gambino’s three-run home run style.
Interdonato said in a recent interview that he doesn’t want to switch to that style overnight, but that there are players on the roster who fit the profile he’s looking for. Boston College also has two new assistant coaches: Dan Tischler and Ryan Wheeler. Tischler came to Boston College to serve as the recruiting coordinator, and Wheeler was the pitching coach at Air Force. Interdonato said he hired both because they come from winning programs.
