The Super Bowl is fast approaching and the question on everyone’s mind is who to bet on to be this year’s MVP. Patrick Mahomes or Brock Purdy? Or will it go to the unfed player this year? By deciding to part ways with Bill Belichick, the Patriots only severed ties with a high-profile coach.
Belichick was also the de facto GM for most of his tenure in New England. Robert Kraft and company have not named a general manager in writing since Belichick’s departure, but all signs point to Eliot Wolff as the top person in the HR department.
Wolff started as a consultant in 2020 and moved on to become the director of research in New England. Wolf may not be a household name in the NFL, but as ESPN’s Dan Graziano pointed out in a column published Saturday, the 41-year-old’s rise through the ranks of the Patriots’ front office has been well received around the league.
“With Elliot Wolfe holding the top job in the Patriots’ personnel department, many around the league are encouraged by New England’s long-term prospects,” Graziano wrote. “The pain may grow as the new team settles in under coach Jerod Mayo, but many people I’ve talked to believe Wolff, the longtime Packers coach who has worked in New England’s front office since 2020, is too busy for a new career.
They say it’s too late… the opportunity to run your own show in the front office and succeed in that role. The Wolves appear to be off to a good start, hiring new offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt after Belichick’s departure. The former has the potential to accelerate New England’s rebuild with a strong showing in the 2024 NFL Draft.
As Graziano mentioned, the Wolverines could face some obstacles as they try to get the Patriots back on their feet. But the positive comments about his promotion should please the Foxboro Faithful.Hopefully Wolf gets the upper hand as the Pats try to rebuild football based on his football management experience and the Krafts don’t try to meddle in football personnel decisions. I don’t think Jonathan would do that…
