Many owners in the National Football League started against Bill Belichick.
After going through seven organizations with coaching vacancies this offseason, Belichick remains on the open market. Many have speculated that Belichick could be out of a job after the 2024 campaign, and NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero took it a step further with his Super Bowl Sunday report. “The league currently expects Belichick to coach in 2025,” Pelissero said on “NFL GameDay.””In fact, I was told a few weeks ago that shortly after the Falcons decided to hire Raheem Morris, several owners reached out to Belichick about next year’s recruiting cycle.”When asked if Pelissero was referring to owners having coaches before the 2024 campaign, an NFL insider said, “That’s usually the case.”Belichick is just 15 wins away from tying Don Shula’s hitting streak, a feat Benchmark Pelissero said he is “motivated” to accomplish.
Belichick drew interest from the Washington Chiefs and Falcons this offseason and interviewed twice. One of the reasons the Falcons went with Morris over Belichick was because the 71-year-old demanded personnel control. But Atlanta owner Arthur Blank dismissed that theory and said Belichick would be willing to work with anyone who asked.
ESPN’s Dan Graziano, who believes Belichick will return in 2025, suggested three storied franchises as potential landing spots: the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears.
