Sony Michel will never forget the night he was drafted by the New England Patriots. This marked the beginning of Michel’s career in the National Football League, where he worked hard. It also gave the former Georgia prospect, who was taken with the 31st pick in 2018, his first experience in a Bill Belichick-led organization.
Michel shared his thoughts on his first impressions of the organization during an appearance on The Money Down Podcast, which he co-hosted with former Patriots teammate James White.”That’s funny. Patriots, right?” Michelle said. “That’s why I was drafted in the first round. I look at all the other first round (picks) and Calvin Ridley gets drafted in the first round and those guys send the Jets and every team sends the Jets to those guys. Everyone has a plane.”I’m not going to lie. They put me on a Southwest flight. You have to choose a place. Yes, please choose your seat.
So I thought, “Oh, I’ve never even experienced an airplane.”Michel also spoke about his experience playing for Belichick, calling him a “solid coach” and “very close.”After three seasons, including a Super Bowl win, in New England, Michel was traded from the Patriots to the Los Angeles Rams before the 2021 campaign. Michel spent the final season of his rookie contract with the Rams before signing with the Crosstown Chargers in 2022.
Michel retired from the NFL in 2023, finishing his career with 3,243 yards and 18 touchdowns in 65 games.
