NBA Rumors: Former Celtic Grant Williams Traded to Mavericks.
The Dallas Mavericks appeared eager to add Grant Williams last offseason, sending a pair of second-round picks to the Boston Celtics in a three-team sign-and-trade. Love did not last long. The Charlotte Hornets are closing in on a trade that would send PJ Washington to the Mavericks for Williams, Seth Curry and a first-round pick, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Williams’ run with the Mavericks ended after just 47 games, during which his numbers dipped slightly while playing in the new system. The 25-year-old saw dips in 3-point shooting (.376), field goal percentage (3.6) and field goal percentage (.538) despite tying career highs in minutes per game (26 ,4).
Williams will return to his hometown of Charlotte to help a team in dire need of a defensive tackle. The Hornets are last in the NBA in defense. The Mavericks add size and shooting to Washington, essentially serving as a one-on-one upgrade in Williams’ lineup.
