O’Brien expressed interest in the Eagles job after Jeff Hafley left to take the Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator job. The former Penn State and Houston Texans coach has been No. 1 on BC’s list since the beginning. O’Brien has a long and deep pedigree in the New England region.
He coached the Patriots from 2007 to 2011 and again in 2023. The 54-year-old went 15-9 in two seasons at Penn State from 2012-13. He then became the head coach of the Texans and won four division titles from 2014 to 2020.
Before returning to the Patriots last season, O’Brien spent two seasons as Alabama’s offensive coordinator. Under his guidance, Bryce Young became the first Alabama quarterback to win the Heisman Trophy. Boston College finished the season 7-6.
