NBA Rumors: Celtics sign former first-round pick from 76ers.
Clearly, Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens isn’t done yet. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Stevens and company violated the NBA trade deadline on Thursday afternoon and acquired Jayden Springer from the Philadelphia 76ers.
Boston sends its second-round pick to Philadelphia. Springer was a first-round pick in the 2021 NBA draft and spent his first three seasons with the 76ers.
Appeared in 50 career games but averaged less than 10 minutes per game. Springer, 21, is averaging 4.0 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 12 minutes per game this season. But what Springer lacks in offensive game, he makes up for. He looks like a top defender. This is another step forward for the Celtics, who had the best record in the NBA this season and didn’t get much attention before the deadline. Boston acquired big man Xavier Tillman from the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday.
