The Patriots will add another name to the group next season, and this time it’s actually a punter. New England signed wide receiver Kawaan Baker to a reserve/futures contract on Tuesday, making him the second receiver to receive such a contract from them this offseason.
The Patriots also signed wide receiver T.J. Luther, Ke’Sean Vaughn, offensive linemen Andrew Steuber and Michael Jordan, defensive linemen Tristen Hill and William Bradley-King, quarterback Joe Giles-Harris and cornerback Azizi Hearn all received similar offers. Baker joins Vaughn and Jordan as outsiders.
Baker entered the league as a seventh-round pick out of South Alabama in 2021 and has spent time with the New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles over the past three seasons. He spent two days on the practice squad for the Saints during his rookie campaign and played only on special teams.
Baker was suspended for the first six games of the 2022 regular season for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs, which led to his departure from New Orleans.
