As the post-Bill Belichick New England Patriots front office takes shape under new general manager Eliot Wolff, head coach Jerod Mayo’s staff is also nearing completion after the hire. After drafting a quarterback, T. McCartney reported Wednesday that the Patriots have changed their goals, including hiring Scott Peters as offensive line coach.
New England was reportedly looking at Seattle Seahawks assistant Andy Dickerson for the position, but multiple reports say they are currently hiring Peters. The Pats have been plagued by offensive line issues this season and have been heavily criticized for an anemic offense that finished last in the NFL in scoring and led to a 4-13 record.
The additions of McCartney and Peters fill the biggest gap in Mayo’s new staff. He succeeds Belichick, who left the organization on Jan. 11 after 24 years. Peters was a former fourth-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles who played seven years in the NFL.
Beginning in 2020, he will join the Cleveland Browns staff, working alongside new Patriots offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt and longtime offensive guru Bill Callahan.
