The 2024 Senior Cup concluded last weekend with the national team defeating Team USA 16-7 in Mobile, Alabama. For better or for worse, here’s who caught the eye of the New England Patriots. QB Spencer Rattler (South Carolina): It was a strong week of practice on the field for Rattler, who earned MVP honors.
In just two drives, the Rattlers went 4-of-4 for 65 yards and a touchdown on a 29-yard touchdown run. The former top recruit was Mobile’s most consistent QB this week.QB Sam Hartman (Notre Dame): On the other end of the QB spectrum was Hartman, who completed 7-of-25 for 69 yards and had one poor interception. Hartman played most of the game while Michael Penix Jr. wasn’t involved and had trouble getting his rhythm going through the air.
Elsewhere in the QB department, Oregon State’s Bo Nix leads the way with a 2-yard touchdown run. Tennessee’s Joe Milton III completed 9 of 13 passes but failed to move the ball consistently while throwing two touchdowns. Tulane’s Michael Pratt and South Alabama’s Carter Bradley also tried to go under center.
DL Braden Fiske (Florida State): After becoming the first player traded before Saturday’s game, Fiske was left with a tough jam against his former All-American teammates. His explosive ability off the ball is evident as he records four tackles (1.5 for loss) and breaks up a sack.
CB Chau Smith-Wade (Washington State): The Smith-Wade product capped off his strong week with one of Saturday’s Plays of the Day. Smith-Wade dived to grab it, but then remembered he hadn’t touched her and couldn’t come back. Smith-Wade returned it 83 yards. Pepper then made another cut in the final game of the day.WR Tez Walker (UNC): The UNC wide receiver entered this week with high hopes that he could go in the first round of the draft.
But a tough week of training turned into a match as Walker failed to connect on any of his six goals and the drain problems continued. Walker was split down the field at one point in the fourth quarter, but the ball wasn’t thrown enough. RB Emani Bailey (TCU), RB Cody Schrader (Missouri), RB Dylan Laube (New Hampshire): New England is on the road for the third day and has impressed on several Saturdays.
Emani Bailey showed his explosiveness on a busy day, totaling 14 touches for 87 yards. Cody Schrader was effective as a pass catcher, hauling in five receptions for 54 yards. UNH’s Dylan Laube had a quiet game, but a week of practice raised his draft status.
