We don’t know the official title yet. The Patriots have a new special teams coach.New England plans to hire former Los Angeles Rams assistant Jeremy Springer to fill its vacant special teams coach position, according to a report from NFL Media on Wednesday. At the time of writing, it was unclear whether Springer would be named special teams coordinator.
Springer spent the last two seasons as a special teams assistant in Los Angeles after eight years as a college coach. He spent time at places like Marshall, Arizona and Texas A&M.Springer will coach a once-proud Patriots special teams unit that has hit rock bottom the past three seasons. However, it’s worth noting that the Rams’ special teams ranked last in DVOA in 2023. Chase Blackburn was the special teams coordinator in Los Angeles.
The futures of New England’s Joe Judge and Cam Acord remain uncertain. Special teams assistant Joe Houston recently left the Patriots to join the University of Florida.
