PWHL Boston Wrap: Elaine Chooley leads Montreal to overtime win.
Montreal avenged Boston’s season-opening win. PWHL Montreal forward Laura Stacey scored the winning goal to lead Montreal to a 2-1 victory over Boston at the Tsongas Center on Sunday afternoon.Boston snapped a two-game winning streak earlier this season with a 3-2 overtime win over Montreal to post a 4-2-1 record.
Montreal, in first place, maintained their standings with 6 wins, 1 loss and 2 losses.a big taskElaine Chuly, who won each of her first two starts this season, went undefeated and nearly stole a point for Montreal. Boston played somewhat rough in the second period and then played with energy in the third period. But Boston struggled to get over the hump, stopping 23 of 24 shots, including a string of Grade A chances for the hosts in Chuly.
Boston never led the game as Montreal took a 1-0 lead just four minutes into the first period on an Erin Ambrose putback. Ambrose also had the game-winning assist to complete the 3-on-3 overtime. the star of the game- Chooley wasn’t the only keeper in the game, as Boston goalie Aerin Frankel stopped 26 of 27 shots in regulation for her fifth shutout of the season. With five minutes left, Frankel made a clutch save as Stacey stepped up the ice in transition.
— Ambrose finishes with a pair of points and makes a great pass to Stacey at the back post.—Boston forward Jamie Lee Rattray played with great energy and led his team in an exciting long game. After Sophie Shirley leveled the scores at 1-1, Rattray fired back off the post with less than 16 minutes remaining. Rattray’s conversion would have put the home side one goal ahead.
