Looks like the Patriots need a new running backs coach.Vinny Sunseri is leaving New England to join the Washington Huskies as defensive line coach, Bruce Feldman of The Athletic reported Monday morning. Sunseri will work under Steve Belichick, who will become Washington’s defensive coordinator after coaching the Patriots in various roles over the past 12 years.
After playing safety at Alabama and spending three seasons in the NFL, Sunseri joined the New England coaching staff as a defensive assistant in 2020. He spent the next three seasons as quarterbacks coach.Both Sunseri and Belichick will work under head coach Jedd Fish, who coached the Patriots in 2020. The Patriots haven’t named anyone else to be their running backs coach in 2023, so there’s no obvious
candidate to pull off an internal coup. New England could also look outside the organization to hire a head coach and assistants.
