After 24 seasons as head coach of the New England Patriots, Bill Belichick and the franchise have agreed to part ways. When that happened, there was speculation that Belichick’s son, Steve Belichick, would follow him wherever he went for his next job.
Steve served on his father’s staff at Foxboro for 12 years, mostly on defense. He participated in two of his father’s six Super Bowl championships. After the NFL head coaching cycle ended and all vacancies were filled, Bill was not hired. His future has not yet been decided. But the child seems to have found his place without him. Steve Belichick was hired as Washington’s defensive coordinator.
ESPN’s Field Yates tweeted that Steve Belichick has been hired as the defensive coordinator at the University of Washington. After watching what would happen to his father, he gets a job at a college game with a top program.
Washington played in the College Football Playoff last year, but fell victim to giant Michigan. After the championship loss, their head coach Kalen DeBoer opened up with the Alabama Crimson Tide after Seattle legend Nick Saban announced his retirement. The Huskies rotation includes new head coach Jedd Fish and Arizona offensive coordinator Brennan Carroll.
Now they add Belichick and his NFL experience to the defensive side of the ball. They will look to continue their recent success in Seattle as they move from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten.
