Theo Epstein joins the Red Sox in an advisory and ownership role.
Epstein previously lived in Boston for 10 years. Theo Epstein has returned to the Boston Red Sox and joined Fenway Sports Group in an advisory role.
Epstein, who served as the organization’s general manager for nine seasons, returns to the Red Sox as owner of FSG. He will assume the role of senior adviser on Friday morning, FSG said.Epstein advises FSG owners John Henry, Tom Werner, Mike Gordon and Sam Kennedy on the company’s activities, including the Red Sox, Liverpool FC, Pittsburgh Penguins, RFK Racing and Boston Common Golf. “I am excited and honored to return to FSG and join John, Linda, Tom, Mike, Sam and the ownership team in this new role,” Epstein said in a press release. “It’s a really special opportunity for me.

The opportunity to test myself in a new field; and the ability to use my experience and perspective to help others succeed and win at higher levels. “…I am honored and humbled to return as a minority shareholder and advisor. In this role, I will not be the decision maker. Instead, I will ask questions, give feedback, and rely on and support the amazing people at FSG to help me reach new heights.”Epstein is stepping down as Major League Baseball’s official adviser, a position he has held since 2021 and helped change the pitch clock and other rules that debuted last year.
