The Red Sox signed the Yankees legend’s cousin to a minor league contract.
Should I call him Jaydun?
MiLB signed Joe Danand of the Boston Red Sox to a minor league contract on Thursday, adding organizational depth at each corner, according to MiLB’s trade page. But this is no ordinary signature. Doonan, who played in just three major league games, is the cousin of New York Yankees legend Alex Rodriguez. It may be difficult to expect Doonan to play for Boston this season, but it’s worth noting that Rodriguez has attended his cousin’s games several times throughout his career.
The three-time MVP watched Dunnand hit a home run with the Triple-A Gwinnett Stripers last season in St. Paul, Minnesota. The 28-year-old cornerback hit .268/.362/.481 with 17 home runs in 403 plate appearances for Gwinnett in 2023. The North Carolina State University graduate was drafted by the Miami Marlins in the second round in 2017 and appeared in his only big league game in 2022.If Danand stays with the Red Sox through spring training, he is expected to remain at Triple A Worcester.
