Turner’s one season in Boston was good. Justin Turner is leaving the Red Sox but will remain in the American League East.Turner is set to join the Blue Jays on a one-year deal, as first reported by MLB Network’s John Morosi.
The 39-year-old is expected to be Toronto’s leadoff hitter in Major League Baseball next season, with occasional starts at first and third base, according to Morosi.The one-year deal has a base salary of $13 million, with an additional $1.5 million available through roster and performance bonuses. The two-time All-Star will opt out of his contract in early November and finish out the 2023 season in Boston.
Despite nagging pain, Turner appeared in 146 games, hitting 23 home runs and 96 RBI. Veteran infielder Alex Cora has been very versatile for the club, playing first, second and third base in addition to his primary role as designated hitter.The Red Sox and Blue Jays will meet 13 times in 2024, with the first game scheduled to take place at Rogers Center in mid-June. Turner will make his first trip to Boston a week later when the Jays travel to Fenway Park for a three-game set.
