Mack Jones traveled the world for three years as the starting quarterback for the New England Patriots. Coaching and personnel changes, combined with his personal regression, led to a decline in his play after a standout rookie season with the Patriots. The 2023 campaign was a low point for the New England quarterback.
He struggled to carve out a playmaking role for a struggling Patriots offense and eventually lost the starting job to Bailey Zappé. According to a new report from MassLive’s Mark Daniels, the third-year quarterback is struggling to improvise plays and take the offense to the next level.”According to multiple sources, the Patriots’ error-prone offense forced Jones into free agency, playing outside of Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien’s system and ultimately beyond his capabilities,” Daniels wrote.
Jones was never able to return to the success he had before his fling with former player Matt Patricia. The Patriots have definitely struggled more with their offense than their quarterback. The receivers failed to create opportunities and a struggling offensive line gave Jones little time to work. As a result, O’Brien tried to nurse Jones back to health.
