Patriots wide receiver Kaishon Butte has been arrested on two gambling charges, NOLA.com’s Wilson Alexander reports. The 2023 sixth-round pick faces misdemeanor charges of prohibited computer fraud and gambling by a person under 21.Butte allegedly used a minor alias to bet on Louisiana sports.
The scheme reportedly involved more than 8,900 bets on Alexander. At least 17 of those games came in college football, including six at LSU. Butt, a former five-star recruit, played at LSU from 2020-22. These alleged bets took place while Butta was attending an SEC school.
The Patriots drafted Booth, 21, last year and used him sparingly. He caught two passes for 19 yards as a rookie. The NFL acknowledged the arrest and would not comment on the incident, via NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport. Those bets, which took place while Butte was in college, are distinct from recent violations by NFL players. And here, isolation makes an interesting difference.
Regardless of when the bet was placed, the NFL has seen many players get in trouble for betting over the past few years. Calvin Ridley’s 2022 suspension comes ahead of several 2023 bans, including Colts corner Isaiah Rodgers, Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams and Titans tight end Nicolas Petit-Frere. Broncos defensive lineman Eyioma Uwazirike was suspended for a season for betting on NFL games, but the University of Iowa graduate was accused of betting on Cyclones games while in Ames.
This latest episode also put Denver on the criminal investigation map in 2021.With Butta’s minimal role with the Pats in 2023 and the arrival of a new coach, it’s safe to say the former rookie’s career is in jeopardy.
