Now that the NFL Mocks season has begun, many NFL pundits, pundits and fans have the New England Patriots selected with the fourth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. It could happen, but the former NFL GM said the team should not give up on Mac Jones too soon. As the team continues its search for an offensive coordinator, Jones’ fate depends on who fills the void.
If that pursuit leads to Josh McDaniels, the Patriots will likely keep Mack in hopes of competing again with the offensive coordinator who was part of Mack’s rookie success. Mocking Patriots: Former NFL executive still has money on Mack Jones. Many fans don’t want to think about spending another season with Mack Jones, but former Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Mark Dominique called out Jones during an appearance on Tom E. Curran’s Talking Patriots podcast.
“There’s no reason to get rid of Mac Jones,” Dominique said, via NBC Sports Boston . “If they play, do we still have a chance to win?” Yes I think so. Financially, I’m in good shape now. It’s a deal because you’ve already taken the signing bonus. Now that you know what it’s about, you’re basically paying the fifth paragraph (Jones’ $2.8 million base salary in 2024). When you look at the world of backup quarterbacks and salaries, it would be hard to do better. And he still wants to prove something. He has a new team to prove and will still be hungry. “He doesn’t want his NFL career to end.
So I don’t think he’s going to sit in a corner and blame himself. He knows he has to work and I think he has that personality. If you talk to guys in Alabama, they all love Mac Jones. He’s not part of a bad team and he’s not a bad guy. “From my perspective, I want to have that guy on our football team because of the salary cap implications and what he can do.”With an improved offensive line and more playmakers around him, can Mack Jones bounce back and have a solid season?
If the team thinks like Dominique, that means the team will pick one of their best tackles or Marvin Harrison Jr. With the no. 3 and a quarterback in the second round, the hope is that a player will push or eventually take it. In Jones’ case, that is, unless he shows signs of turning his decline into progress.
NFL Draft Buzz: Lots of rumors surrounding Jayden DanielsLooking at NFL mock drafts from various experts and sources, LSU quarterback and Heisman winner Jayden Daniels is the Patriots’ popular No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
And with Mel Kiper Jr. ranking him second among Washington’s running backs, interest in Daniels is growing in Patriots Nation. The latest person to catch Daniels fever was former Patriots tight end and current host of The Greg Hill Show, Jermaine Wiggins. He fell in love with the NFL prospect’s running ability and overall athleticism.
Here’s what Wiggins had to say on WEEI:“Jaden Daniels has really good potential as a running back and I think he’s ahead of Drake Maye in terms of ceiling potential. “I’m not saying Drake Maye wouldn’t be a good quarterback, but as a Patriots fan, I hope New England gets Jayden Daniels.”Overall, Wiggins sees Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson as the Patriots’ representatives on Daniels.NFL Rumors: Patriots interested in interviewing Lions quarterbacks coordinator Tanner Engstrand
Who will coach and play next season – Mac Jones, Daniel Jones or someone from New England? Another intriguing name has emerged as a target next week when the team interviews Los Angeles Rams coach Nick Caley. According to Ian Rapoport, the Patriots plan to interview Lions running back Tanner Engstrand for the offensive coordinator position.
Engstrand, who worked under Sean McVay and Jim Harbaugh, is currently a top contender for the Lions’ offensive coordinator job if OC Ben Johnson fills one of the two remaining NFL head coaching jobs. If that doesn’t work out, Engstrand will be a hot commodity for OC duties, so the Patriots could take a chance on the success Engstrand has had in the Lions offense this season.
NFL Notes, News and Agency News: Patriots Have Money to Spend!New Patriots coach Jerod Mayo said the team will spend some money on signing players this offseason, which could make for an interesting free agent move for the Patriots. Looking at some potential free agents, receivers Ty Higgins and Mike Evans are at the top of many fans’ lists, but the Patriots need to be smart with their spending and focus on other areas of the offense like the offensive line and tight ends.
Some in-house free agents like Mike Onwenu, Hunter Henry and Kyle Dugger are players they should try to re-sign. Other starters include Kendrick Bourne and Anfernee Jennings, who have proven strong defensively this season. So while the goal is to bring in new talent, the Patriots must also keep their core young.
