Declan Rice of Arsenal has been named the Premier League signing of the season by Newcastle United icon Alan Shearer.
Shearer asserted in a BBC Sport article that the England midfielder had strengthened the Gunners’ defense.
He claims that Rice has significantly improved the team and been a standout performer for Mikel Arteta’s club.
Arsenal remained at the top of the league following their easy victory over Brighton earlier in the day, thanks to Liverpool’s draw. Declan Rice has been the main contributor to the Gunners’ improvement from the previous season, when they played City close until the very end. He has been the most notable summer addition, and it appears like the £100 million he paid to get from West Ham was money well spent, according to Shearer.
“Rice has improved the Gunners’ solidity and added a bit of bite to their midfield, but his play off the ball is equally excellent.”
Rice reportedly paid £100 million to join Arsenal from West Ham United in the summer of last year.
