The Champions League winner this season is expected to be either Manchester City or Arsenal, according to Liverpool veteran Graeme Souness.
Rival European leagues are “nowhere near as good as the Premier League,” which explains this.
In response to Monday’s Round of 16 draw, Souness was speaking.
Arsenal will play FC Porto, while Holders City will play FC Copenhagen.
Following their respective group bottom finishes—Manchester United and Newcastle—these two English clubs remain in the competition.
“Maybe this is a huge compliment to the Premier League, but when I watch German, Italian, and Spanish football, along with PSG, which is a different team, I have doubts about the leagues.”
They are not even close to our league’s caliber. They don’t seem to have the same intensity or desire that our players do, and I’m not sure if they do either.
“I believe that we have the best teams in Arsenal and Man City.” Observing them, I believe that our league has improved to the point where the majority of our teams are clear favorites. First and third, perhaps, or maybe first and second,” Souness said on talkSPORT.
The Champions League final this season will take place in London’s Wembley.
Manchester United vs. Chelsea in 2008, Liverpool vs. Tottenham in 2019, and Chelsea vs. Manchester City in 2021 are the three all-English Champions League finals in history.
