Since Vincent Enyeama departed from international football in 2015, Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been without a trustworthy goalkeeper.
The Super Eagles came the closest to finding a competent goalkeeper when Carl Ikeme was named to the national squad. However, his unexpected retirement in 2018 due to a health issue has left the team without a reliable goalie.
Francis Uzoho, who currently plays in Cyprus, has been the Super Eagles’ number one goalkeeper, although he has not been consistent because he is prone to unnecessary errors.
In his last 14 friendly games in Nigerian colors, he has conceded a record 22 goals, causing most Super Eagles fans to call for his departure before of the 2023 African Cup of Nations, which will begin in Ivory Coast in January 2024.
Maduka Okoye, his projected rival for the number one place, is yet to make an appearance for his new club, Udinese, this season.
In light of this, Naija News has created a list of four goalkeepers who could assist in resolving the Super Eagles’ goalkeeping woes.
