Lyon manager Fabio Grosso has responded to the savage attack on him and his team while they were traveling for a league game last weekend.
On Sunday, October 29, Fabio Grosso suffered the worst damage when enraged Marseille fans stormed Lyon’s squad bus with stones and fireworks before a league game at Marseille’s Stade Vélodrome.
The game was called off indefinitely due to the attack, while coach Fabio Grosso was hospitalized with cuts on his head.
Grosso stated days after the occurrence that the attack “could have been a tragedy” and hoped that it would serve as a lesson to the league’s handlers.
Grosso, 45, posted on Instagram, “I hope with all my heart that it can be a lesson for our future.”
“What happened on Sunday evening had the potential to be a tragedy.” It was certainly for the sport and all those who like it.”
At the time of writing, the French Ligue 1 had not made an official decision on the possible punishment for Marseille or when the postponed game will be played.
“At the moment, the safety conditions necessary to play in Marseille have not been met,” stated the club’s general manager Vincent Ponsot in an interview with Lyon’s official TV channel.
“We must play on neutral ground.” What we want is for our players’ safety to be ensured.”
