The Kentucky Wildcats are wrapping up summer workouts as Big Blue Madness is just now over two months away. With an almost complete roster turnover, Mark Pope and his staff needed to get to work implementing their system to the new players, while also evaluating each player’s progress as they prepare to enter the start of the season. We all got plenty of peaks from the quick videos showing the practices or the scrimmages between the guys, which now begs the question: What are some early takeaways? Let’s take a look at that and talk through four major takeaways from…

As Mark Pope continues to try and establish himself as a top college basketball recruiter at Kentucky, there’s a potential ace in the hole that’s been unleashed for the second-year UK coach. Earlier this summer, Pope served as a court coach during a USA Basketball training camp in Colorado that was used to determine the United States’ roster for the 2025 FIBA Under-19 World Cup, an event the Americans won in Switzerland. That training camp included 32 participants, among them some of the nation’s top college basketball prospects. Thirteen of the training camp’s participants were from the 2026 recruiting…

Mark Pope did an excellent job of landing elite talent to put together his 2025-26 roster. Adding players from the transfer portal, high school recruiting, and getting Otega Oweh back has the Wildcats in a great spot. An article was written on ESPN where Myron Medcalf listed ten teams that he sees as title contenders this season in college basketball, and one of those teams was Kentucky. Medcalf had this to say about the Wildcats being title contenders, “Mark Pope’s team caught the injury bug late last season and will start this season with a major injury question. Jayden Quaintance, a…

The Dolphins were in the market for veteran cornerback help before Artie Burns tore his ACL this week and they’ve added some in the wake of that injury. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Dolphins have agreed to terms with former Patriots and Raiders corner Jack Jones. It’s a one-year deal for the veteran. Jones was a 2022 fourth-round pick in New England and was waived in November 2023 after being benched in the wake of missing curfew on a road trip. He was claimed off of waivers in Las Vegas and he started 16 of the 17 games…

MIAMI GARDENS — Miami Dolphins rookie guard Jonah Savaiianaea has been jamming with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. It’s a savvy move. “He’s got a voice and he can play every instrument,” Savaiinaea said of Tua after the Dolphins’ third training camp practice. The Dolphins traded up in the second round of the last NFL draft to select Savaiinaea, a large and powerful man with good feet. It’s just a bonus that Savaiinaea also plays the piano and guitar. What coach Mike McDaniel likes most about Savaiinaea already is his commitment to getting it right. “You can tell the veterans believe in…

Good morning, BBN! The Kentucky Wildcats’ summer workouts have been buzzing with talk of just one name: Trent Noah. The rising sophomore from Harlan County has become the unofficial king of catch‑and‑shoot threes, as teammates and coaches alike continue to rave about his shot. Jaland Lowe, the veteran Pitt transfer, even called him “maybe the best shooter I’ve ever seen” after just two weeks at practice. Freshmen like Malachi Moreno are equally impressed: “He’s the best shooter in the gym,” Moreno said. “Even when defenders are right there, he somehow still gets it off.” Fellow newcomer Braydon Hawthorne added, “Trent,…

LEXINGTON — The storyline almost was straight out of a Hollywood script: Archie Goodwin, standing at the free-throw line, needing to sink two free throws to defeat his former team (Eberlein Drive) and help his new club (La Familia) advance. Adding further drama to the proceedings: Goodwin only was at the line because his injured teammate, Willie Cauley-Stein, had hobbled into the locker room, too hurt to continue. Movies have fairytale endings. Everyday life doesn’t guarantee them. Goodwin had to reckon with that reality Tuesday. He made the first free throw, pulling La Familia within one point of victory. But his…

In today’s college basketball, talent wins games, but money, specifically NIL money, wins recruiting battles. And nobody is playing that game more aggressively than the Kentucky Wildcats. Led by head coach Mark Pope, Kentucky is making headlines, not just for the talent it’s acquiring but for the cash it’s investing in that talent. At the center of it all, quite literally, is 6-foot-10 Jayden Quaintance, a teenage phenom with a $1.9 million NIL valuation who’s quickly becoming the face of the Wildcats’ new era. According to Fox Sports, Quaintance is the sixth-highest valued player in college basketball based on NIL…
