It will be a very interesting summer for Liverpool Football Club as Jurgen Klopp leaves Anfield after nine years, and passes on the baton to the next managerial incumbent. The German has written himself into Reds folklore not just for the way his teams play football and his trophy haul whilst at the club, but for the energy he’s brought to the position and the humanity he’s shown to many. The biggest compliment that could be paid to him is that he will be mentioned in the same reverential tones as the likes of Shankly, Paisley and Dalglish in years…
The Boston Celtics compiled the NBA’s best record (43-12) ahead of the All-Star Game, finishing off that run with a trampling win over the Brooklyn Nets. Boston outscored Brooklyn by 50 points in a 136-86 blowout to add a sixth straight win before Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown headed to Indianapolis for All-Star weekend. Even without Brown available to play, the Celtics still shot 57.1% from the field, 48.9% from three and outscored the Nets, 46-32, inside the paint, making the battle one-sided for the majority of Brooklyn’s four-quarter punishment. Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla even had the luxury of…
The New England Patriots reportedly parted ways with not one, but two veteran defensive players. Defensive lineman Lawrence Guy and safety Adrian Phillips, who each spent the last four seasons as teammates in New England, were released by the organization on Monday, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Since then, he’s spent time at loan at Preston, Schalke and now Mainz, where he’s played 24 times this season, making 19 starts. This weekend saw him net the winner in a tight 1-0 victory over FC Augsburg which was his second of the season. His current Liverpool deal expires in 2026…
Things appear to be changing at Manchester United. Jim Ratcliffe is wasting no time putting plans into place and among them are hiring Newcastle’s Dan Ashworth as a sporting director. It does, in fairness, look like the Old Trafford side is making some smart decisions this time around. Ashworth is a clever man and he would not be pushing to leave St James’ Park for a project that he didn’t believe in. The Athletic reports that Ashworth has now been placed on gardening leave after making clear his desire to jump ship. “The Glazers don’t play football but when you…
Jurgen Klopp will provide an update on the fitness of Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah when he addresses the media on Tuesday morning at the AXA Training Centre. The Liverpool boss will be previewing his side’s latest Premier League clash against Luton Town and much of his pre-match briefing is expected to be centred around the availability of some of the Reds top performers after a bruising trip to Brentford on Saturday afternoon. Goals from Nunez, Alexis Mac Allister, Salah and Cody Gakpo sealed a valuable three points for the Reds in West London, that result…
The title-race is heating up, but there are so many tough games still to come. We can’t look any further than the next one. Just beat Luton. Don’t think about anything other than Luton. Don’t look any further, get the three points in the next game, then attack the next one. If we can do what we can do, then we’re in with a great shout. Even if it means at least having to avoid defeat at home to Man City, and probably having to beat them. But you don’t look at that game until it’s the next one. For…

There are some footballers who just seem like they are born to play for certain clubs. Those who possess certain qualities – sometimes to do with their approach to the game, sometimes relating to their values or look, sometimes indefinable – which just feel the right fit. The trick of course is getting them on board at mutually beneficial junctures for both player and club which is not always possible as Liverpool discovered when they were finally able to get Jari Litmanen to Merseyside. The Finnish attacker had long been on the Anfield radar with his eventual arrival in 2001…
