Jurgen Klopp was back in the dugout at Signal Iduna Park on Saturday for a testimonial game for Borussia Dortmund legends Lukasz Piszczek and Jakub Blaszczykowski and the German coach produced some of his famous fist pumps for the Yellow Wall. The former Liverpool manager returned to the sidelines for the first time since leaving Anfield at the end of the 2023/24 campaign and took charge of Blaszczykowski’s team for the special game. The 57-year-old was successful on his coaching return winning the testimonial match 5-4. After the match, Klopp produced some fist pumps in front of the Yellow Wall…
Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo gave the Netherlands a 3-1 lead against Bosnia and Herzegovina as he finished off a brilliant team move from the Dutch. Ronald Koeman’s side were 2-1 up thanks to goals from Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee and Tijjani Reijnders before Gakpo rounded off a great move. The finish may have been a simple tap in for the Liverpool man from close range following a ball across the box from Reijnders but it was all about Gravenberch’s pass to the AC Milan man in the build up. The Liverpool midfielder played an inch perfect pass into Reijnders which brilliantly…
With no games to play this week, focus at Liverpool has been on the ongoing contract situations of three of their biggest players. The Reds have made an excellent start to the season, winning three games out of three. But with the first international break of the campaign now arriving, there is nothing on the pitch to distract away from the contract trouble at Anfield. As the season continues, the closer Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk edge towards the exit door at Liverpool. With time running out in which to sort out extensions, Ian Wright has given…
Liverpool supporters are no different and are itching to see Arne Slot lead the Reds out once again, having blitzed through the opening weeks of the Premier League campaign, enjoying solid opening victories over Ipswich Town and Brentford before putting Manchester United to the sword in a one-sided affair at Old Trafford. Andy Robertson and Arne Slot So many players have made their mark across August, which is most impressive given the lack of transfer activity despite clear signs that reinforcements are needed. Still, Federico Chiesa was signed for a shrewd £12.5m and the fans must trust the process. Why…
Trent Alexander-Arnold is a very good right-back – who’d have thought it? Well, virtually anybody with a Liverpool connection. The 25-year-old was handed an ultra-rare opportunity to start in his usual spot for England as the Three Lions began life after Gareth Southgate against the Republic of Ireland. Against club mate Caoimhin Kelleher, Alexander-Arnold pulled out all the usual tricks we see on a regular basis at Anfield. Much like he does with the Reds, he was given the freedom to roam by interim England boss Lee Carsley, and was unlucky not to add an assist to his already remarkable…
Liverpool have appointed Diogo Paiva as the club’s new technical skills coach to work with the first team and academy. First reported by Lewis Bower on X and now confirmed by This Is Anfield, the Reds’ summer overhaul has continued with the arrival of Paiva from Porto. The 38-year-old joins as a technical skills coach and has previously worked with fellow Portuguese Vitor Matos. As Elite Development Coach, Matos was a key member of Jurgen Klopp‘s backroom staff and has now moved to Red Bull Salzburg to join Pep Lijnders and Andreas Kornmayer. Paiva worked with Matos at Shandong Luneng…
Despite a terrific start to the season, there are some questions that still need answering about Liverpool’s current squad. The Reds have begun the campaign in excellent fashion, winning three games out of three and keeping a clean sheet in them all. For the time being, the Liverpool squad looks in very good shape indeed. However, there is uncertainty over exactly how long it will be together for. The next months are likely to prove crucial in knowing which of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk will still be at Anfield next season. With all three currently set…
It seems insane to think that Gareth Southgate just couldn’t get a tune out of Trent Alexander-Arnold for England. Our No.66 is, without question, one of the most technically gifted and creative footballers across the globe. To leave him on the bench for much of the European Championship this summer is just plain disgraceful (not to mention wasteful) as far as we’re concerned here at Empire of the Kop. Fortunately, the Scouser was able to quickly prove his worth to the Three Lions’ new boss, Lee Carsley, with a long-range ball of astonishing quality in the opening 11 minutes of…
Liverpool fans have been left pretty enamored with Arne Slot’s start at Anfield – and there are signs that he is building upon what Jurgen Klopp left behind for him. The Dutchman has made the perfect start to life on Merseyside, with three wins out of three to open the new Premier League season. Following victories over Ipswich and Brentford, Slot saved his best for the last game before the international break as the Reds eased past Manchester United at Old Trafford. Having been handed the hardest of acts to follow after Klopp’s departure in the summer, Slot has certainly…
Trent Alexander-Arnold played a big role in England’s opening goal against Ireland. Despite being booed by the Irish fans throughout the opening part of the game, the Arsenal midfielder scored with a brilliant finish to give the Three Lions the lead. And while Rice may have grabbed the headlines for his brilliant finish, it was Alexander-Arnold’s stunning defence-splitting pass that initiated the move. The Liverpool star found Anthony Gordon with a pinpoint ball, sending the Newcastle winger through on goal. Although Gordon’s shot was saved, he managed to lay it back for Harry Kane, whose effort was blocked, allowing Rice…
