All signs point toward Bill Belichick not having an NFL job during the 2024 season, but an opportunity might have opened up with the 49ers. San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed to reporters in a conference call that Steve Wilks will not return as defensive coordinator after one season. The Niners defense ranked fourth in DVOA and 10th in EPA/play, but they allowed Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs to come back and beat them in overtime to win Super Bowl LVIII. Wilks’ share of the blame is debatable, but San Francisco will be looking for a new…
The New England Patriots haven’t formally named a general manager, but the prevailing belief among analysts and insiders is Eliot Wolf is the man running the front office. Hires like offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt have a connection to the director of player personnel going back to either his days with the Green Bay Packers or Cleveland Browns. There appears to be a different approach the Patriots will run with after the franchise parted ways with Bill Belichick this offseason. It’s unknown what that direction will lead to, especially what New England decides to do with the third overall pick…
The Patriots face a pivotal offseason, and it might take bold moves to ensure the franchise truly can move on from the Tom Brady era. That change will not include Bill Belichick after New England parted ways with the longtime head coach. Jerod Mayo leads a new-look staff that has some familiarity with it. All eyes will be on what the Patriots do with the No. 3 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, but free agency also will be key in trying to fill multiple holes on the roster. ESPN polled multiple experts and insiders on their way-too-early Super Bowl…
Mac Jones is a polarizing figure among Patriots fans, as seemingly everyone has an opinion on how his career has been handled. Jones continued to regress in his third year in New England, and after multiple in-game benchings, the 25-year-old sat out the final games of the 2023 season in favor of Bailey Zappe, whom he reportedly didn’t have the best relationship with. The Pro Bowl quarterback also reportedly lost the locker room due to his poor play and alleged attitude about his situation. NESN.com identified one clear reason New England should keep Jones around next season, and readers had…
Bill Belichick’s relationship with the media was complicated, to say the least, and one former Patriot felt the brunt of the heavy expectations of the culture the former New England head coach wanted to establish. “The Dynasty” docuseries premiered Friday on Apple TV+, and the Patriots’ relationship with the media was a talking point when the first two episodes chronicled the beginning of New England’s run with the switch from Drew Bledsoe to Tom Brady. Longtime executive and Belichick confidant Ernie Adams laid out the belief that anyone who wasn’t in Foxboro had no idea what they were talking point,…
Liverpool did not want the time to come, but Jürgen Klopp is leaving at the end of the season. FSG will need to search extensively for a replacement, though Xabi Alonso appears to be the leading contender as things stand. The Spaniard has impressed hugely as Bayer Leverkusen manager, where he could become the first non-Bayern Munich manager since Klopp in 2012 to win the Bundesliga. Alonso was also very well-regarded at Real Sociedad, whose B team he took up to the second tier of Spanish football. That experience should not be discounted. It remains to be seen who else…
Liverpool are set to be without at least seven players when they make the trip to Brentford on Saturday lunchtime. Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash, Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Mohamed Salah is one of a number of senior players who will come back into contention to faces the Bees after a spell on the sidelines. The Egyptian hasn’t played for the Reds since New Year’s Day, having suffered a hamstring injury when on Africa Cup of Nations Duty. However, the German also revealed that Trent Alexander-Arnold will definitely miss next weekend’s League Cup final against…
Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has predicted the outcome of the clash between Brentford and his former club on Saturday, February 17. Jurgen Klopp’s side are top of the league heading into Saturday’s game at the Gtech Community Stadium in west London. Liverpool bounced back from a 3-1 defeat at the Emirates against Arsenal with a commanding 3-1 win against Burnley last week. The Merseyside giants remain on top of the table after 24 games enjoying a narrow two-point lead over Manchester City who have a game in hand. Brentford have endured a difficult season and find themselves 14th in the…
J.J. McCarthy was not initially viewed among the top quarterback prospects entering the 2024 NFL Draft. Part of that was because it wasn’t known whether he would declare or return to the national champion Michigan Wolverines. But since McCarthy declared in mid-January, he has elevated himself into the conversation. Numerous reports have surfaced noting that McCarthy is rising on NFL draft boards. Some reports even mentioned McCarthy as a potential top-10 selection in April. “He’s definitely moving up the board,” NFL reporter Mike Giardi said on NBC Sports Boston last week. “He’s climbing fast and, again, if teams aren’t willing…
Liverpool have found that out the hard way over the years, with the Reds only boasting one Premier League title despite some memorable seasons towards the upper echelons of the table. Jurgen Klopp’s 2019/20 side managed to end 30 years of hurt for Liverpool supporters and the German coach is looking to finish his Anfield career with a second Premier League title to his name. However, it will not be straightforward, with Manchester City and Arsenal ready to push the Reds all the way this season. Here is how many points could win Liverpool the Premier League title. HOW MANY…
