Kentucky’s 2027 recruiting efforts received a mixed update to begin the week, with one highly anticipated official visit canceled while another elite prospect arrived in Lexington.
Five-star point guard Nasir “Rudy” Anderson was originally scheduled to begin his official visit to Kentucky on Monday, but the No. 10 overall prospect in the Rivals Industry Rankings will no longer make the trip.
Anderson, ranked No. 4 among point guards nationally, has included Kentucky among his 10 finalists alongside Georgia, Indiana, North Carolina, Providence, Syracuse, Tennessee, Virginia, UConn and USC.
He has already visited Providence, Virginia and North Carolina, while Tennessee is scheduled to host him on Oct. 15. Anderson is also expected to attend the USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team minicamp in Colorado Springs from Oct. 9-11, which has led to some changes in his recruiting schedule.
But Kentucky quickly found a major replacement for the open recruiting date.
Five-star wing DeMarcus Henry, the No. 2 overall prospect and No. 1 small forward in the 2027 class, arrived in Lexington for an official visit.
Henry comes to Kentucky after an impressive showing at The Border League in Las Vegas. Playing for AZ Compass, the 6-foot-7 wing erupted for 29 points and eight rebounds in a victory over Southeastern Prep.
The performance came in front of Mark Pope and the Kentucky coaching staff, who made the trip to watch one of their biggest remaining recruiting targets.
Kentucky Has Been Making Henry a Priority
While Arkansas and Louisville have received much of the attention surrounding Henry in recent months, Kentucky has quietly continued to make a strong push.
The Wildcats made consecutive trips to Arizona to see Henry during the latest recruiting period and then traveled to Las Vegas to watch him compete at The Border League.
That consistent attention has not gone unnoticed.
“Mark Pope, Coach Mo (Williams), they are all just great people,” Henry previously said. “I love what they’re doing with the program. They’re always reaching out, the whole coaching staff. It means a lot hearing from all those guys.”
Henry also said Kentucky has made it clear that the Wildcats view him as a priority.
The official visit represents an important opportunity for Pope and his staff, especially with Henry expected to make his college decision relatively soon.
Decision Could Be Coming Soon
Henry has indicated that he wants to make his decision during the early signing period, which runs from Nov. 11-18.
“I’m looking to make a decision probably in November, trying to get it over with before the season,” Henry said Sunday.
His finalists currently include Kentucky, Louisville, Arkansas, BYU, Kansas, North Carolina, Duke and Ohio State, although UConn appears to have fallen out of contention.
Arkansas and Louisville are viewed as major contenders, but Kentucky now has an opportunity to make a significant impression during Henry’s time in Lexington.
Henry Brings Elite Two-Way Potential
Henry has quickly established himself as one of the top prospects in the country.
The 6-foot-7, 200-pound lefty possesses a 6-foot-11 wingspan and a strong frame that allows him to impact the game on both ends of the floor.
During Nike EYBL play, Henry averaged 19.3 points, 9.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.3 blocks over 16 games.
He was also dominant at the NBPA Top 100 Camp, leading the event in both scoring at 20.0 points per game and rebounding at 9.3 rebounds per game.
His stock has continued to rise throughout 2026, eventually pushing him to No. 2 nationally.
For Kentucky, the timing could not be better.
With Anderson’s visit canceled, Pope and his staff now have an extended opportunity to show Henry exactly what his future could look like in Lexington.
And with the five-star wing planning to make his decision in November, this visit could be one of Kentucky’s most important recruiting opportunities of the fall.
