Big Blue Madness is almost here, and Kentucky fans are already wondering what surprises Mark Pope and the Wildcats might have in store.
Over the past two seasons, Kentucky has made a habit of bringing special guests back to Rupp Arena. During Pope’s first year, former Kentucky head coach Rick Pitino made an emotional return, while John Wall recently received a huge welcome from Big Blue Nation.
That history naturally raises one question heading into this year’s event: Who could make a surprise appearance at Big Blue Madness?
One of the biggest possibilities would be former Kentucky superstar Anthony Davis.
Davis remains one of the most beloved players in program history after helping lead Kentucky to its eighth national championship in 2012. He has also appeared at Big Blue Madness before, famously surprising the crowd in 2015 when he walked into Rupp Arena during John Calipari’s speech.
With Davis now playing for the Washington Wizards, the timing could potentially allow him to make a quick return to Lexington before the NBA preseason begins.
Another intriguing possibility is DeMarcus Cousins.
Cousins spent one season at Kentucky and quickly became a fan favorite as part of the 2009-10 team that helped restore the Wildcats to national prominence. Unlike active NBA players, Cousins is now retired and working in basketball media, potentially giving him more flexibility to attend the event.
Then there is Reed Sheppard.
The Kentucky native became an instant fan favorite during his lone season in Lexington before being selected No. 3 overall in the 2024 NBA Draft. Sheppard also has a strong connection to Pope through his father, Jeff Sheppard, who was Pope’s teammate on Kentucky’s 1996 national championship team.
Big Blue Madness takes place Oct. 2, before the NBA regular season begins, although Reed Sheppard would likely be occupied with Houston’s training camp.
And then there is perhaps the biggest wildcard of them all: Drake.
The Grammy-winning rapper became a familiar face around Kentucky Basketball during Calipari’s tenure, including previous appearances at Big Blue Madness. But his relationship with Kentucky did not end when Calipari left Lexington.
In 2026, Drake’s OVO brand partnered with Kentucky again for the “Banner Years” collection, celebrating all eight of the program’s national championships.
That connection makes a surprise appearance from Drake an interesting possibility, even if it would be difficult to predict.
For BBN, that is part of what makes Big Blue Madness so exciting. Kentucky has already shown that the event can produce unexpected moments, and this year could bring another memorable surprise.
Whether it is Anthony Davis, DeMarcus Cousins, Reed Sheppard, Drake or another Kentucky legend, fans will find out when Big Blue Madness takes over Rupp Arena on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. ET.
