Kentucky fans can finally breathe a little easier when it comes to Milan Momcilovic.
The Wildcats’ sharpshooting Iowa State transfer was back on the practice court Tuesday as Kentucky officially began preparations for the 2026–27 season. That was particularly encouraging news after Momcilovic recently suffered an injury to a finger on his shooting hand.
There was understandable concern when the injury was first reported as a severely jammed finger. For a player expected to play a major role in Kentucky’s offense, any issue involving his shooting hand was worth monitoring closely.
But Momcilovic’s latest appearance provided exactly the kind of update Big Blue Nation wanted.
Kentucky released video of the 22-year-old getting shots up during the first official practice, and the sharpshooter appeared comfortable letting the ball fly. While he was still wearing a splint, there were no obvious signs that the injury was preventing him from shooting.
That is significant for Mark Pope and the Wildcats.
Momcilovic is expected to be one of Kentucky’s most important offensive weapons this season, particularly because of his ability to stretch the floor and knock down shots from deep. His shooting could become a major part of how Pope builds the Wildcats’ offense around a talented new-look roster.
Momcilovic also reportedly looked good while getting shots up during Kentucky’s recent Media Madness event at the Joe Craft Center, another encouraging indication that his recovery was progressing.
Of course, the splint remains a reminder that the finger is still being protected, and Kentucky will presumably continue to take a cautious approach as the season approaches. The Wildcats still have plenty of time before their Nov. 3 opener against Manhattan at Rupp Arena.
For now, though, the biggest takeaway is simple: Momcilovic is back on the court and shooting.
That is exactly what Kentucky fans wanted to see.
And fittingly, the encouraging practice update came on Momcilovic’s 22nd birthday, giving BBN another reason to celebrate as the Wildcats continue preparing for the upcoming season.
