La Familia is headed to the championship game of The Basketball Tournament (TBT) after grinding out a hard-fought 70-66 victory over Boeheim’s Army on Sunday.
The Kentucky alumni squad had to overcome a tense second half that featured several missed free throws, but former Wildcats Archie Goodwin and Kahlil Whitney rose to the occasion with clutch performances that kept La Familia’s title hopes alive.
Goodwin led the way with a spectacular all-around effort, finishing with a game-high 30 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals. His late baskets during the Elam Ending proved to be the difference as La Familia held off Boeheim’s Army down the stretch.
Darryl Morsell also delivered a strong performance, recording a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds to give the Wildcats alumni a major boost on both ends of the floor.
Whitney continued his impressive tournament run, providing key plays on both offense and defense. The former Kentucky forward has been one of La Familia’s most reliable contributors throughout TBT, helping the team move within one win of the championship.
For both Goodwin and Whitney, the tournament has become an opportunity for redemption in front of Big Blue Nation. Goodwin’s Kentucky career ended with an NIT appearance, while Whitney left the programme during his freshman season. Their performances this summer have reminded fans of their talent and resilience, making them two of La Familia’s biggest difference-makers.
La Familia will now face either Kansas or Wichita State in the TBT championship at Historic Memorial Coliseum. The title game is scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET and will be televised on FS1.
With the championship now within reach, Goodwin and Whitney have played pivotal roles in giving Big Blue Nation another memorable postseason run to celebrate.
