La Familia is still alive in The Basketball Tournament, but staying healthy has quickly become the team’s biggest challenge.
After defeating rival The Ville to advance, Kentucky’s alumni squad now enters the next round with several key players dealing with injuries. The return of Archie Goodwin couldn’t have come at a better time, as his fresh legs and clutch performance helped La Familia survive when the roster was stretched thin.
Goodwin, who led the team with 22 points, made an immediate impact after rejoining the lineup. Head coach Jon Hood admitted that adding another healthy player was exactly what the team needed after Monday’s exhausting loss, when La Familia relied on a short rotation and simply ran out of energy.
The injury list remains a concern. Willie Cauley-Stein was seen wearing a walking boot after the game, Andrew Harrison battled through obvious discomfort, and veteran DeAndre Liggins was unavailable because of lingering soreness. Despite the setbacks, Hood remains optimistic that the extra time off will allow everyone to recover.
La Familia now has three full days before returning to action on Sunday, giving the team valuable time to rest while its next opponent—either Boeheim’s Army or Hall In—continues its own series. If that matchup goes the distance, Kentucky’s alumni team could also benefit from having a fresher roster heading into the regional final.
Hood expects the entire roster to be available by Sunday, even if several players are currently dealing with bumps and bruises. He joked that everyone is simply “questionable with a contusion,” but emphasized that the team will be ready when it matters most.
Preparation for the next game will focus heavily on recovery before shifting attention to scouting the upcoming opponent. The coaching staff plans to study whichever team advances while allowing the players time to rest before returning to the gym for shooting and final preparations.
For now, La Familia’s mission remains simple: recover, regroup, and be ready for another win-or-go-home battle. If the Wildcats’ alumni can get healthier over the next few days, they’ll have a strong opportunity to continue their TBT run and move one step closer to the championship.
