La Familia needed someone to step up in the biggest game of its TBT rivalry with The Ville, and Archie Goodwin answered the call in spectacular fashion.
After missing the opening two games of the series, the former Kentucky standout made an immediate impact in the decisive Game 3. Goodwin poured in a team-high 22 points and capped his outstanding performance by knocking down the game-winning Elam Ending basket, sending La Familia to the next round and giving Big Blue Nation another unforgettable moment against Louisville.
His absence during the first two games had sparked frustration among some fans. Goodwin was expected to be a major contributor after playing an important role for La Familia in last year’s tournament, but family responsibilities kept him away from the team until the winner-take-all matchup.
The situation even led to speculation on social media after teammate Aaron Harrison posted about players not showing up. While fans connected the comments to Goodwin, Harrison later clarified that his message was not directed specifically at him, as the team dealt with multiple roster availability issues throughout the tournament.
Following the victory, Goodwin explained why he made the difficult decision to miss the opening games.
After spending nearly 10 months playing overseas, he returned home in June with only a short window before leaving again for another professional season. Rather than immediately joining La Familia, Goodwin chose to spend that valuable time with his family—especially his young sons.
He shared that he had missed nearly an entire year of his seven-year-old son’s life, including tutoring sessions, basketball games, baseball games, and countless everyday moments. With only a few weeks at home before returning overseas, he felt his priority had to be making up for that lost time.
Goodwin emphasized that no basketball commitment was more important than being present for his children, explaining that while video calls helped, they could never replace being there in person.
Once his family responsibilities allowed, he returned to Lexington and immediately reminded everyone why he remains one of Kentucky’s most talented former players.
His scoring, leadership, and poise helped La Familia survive a fierce battle with The Ville, while his game-winning shot instantly became one of the signature moments of this year’s TBT tournament.
Goodwin also expressed his appreciation for the Kentucky faithful, thanking Big Blue Nation for the continued support they have shown throughout his college career and during his return with La Familia.
Although his lone season at Kentucky didn’t unfold the way many had hoped, performances like this continue to strengthen his connection with Wildcats fans.
With Goodwin back in the lineup, La Familia now carries new momentum into the next round, believing its championship hopes are very much alive after surviving one of the tournament’s biggest rivalry matchups.
