The biggest recruiting week of the summer has arrived, and Kentucky head coach Mark Pope is preparing to spend several days evaluating some of the nation’s top high school prospects.
The Nike EYBL Peach Jam in North Augusta, South Carolina, serves as the final major live evaluation period before the high school season begins. With hundreds of elite prospects competing, coaches from across the country will be looking for future stars. Kentucky’s staff will be among the busiest, focusing heavily on the Wildcats’ 2027 recruiting class while also monitoring younger prospects in 2028 and even 2029.
Kentucky’s Top Targets
The Wildcats already hold scholarship offers for a long list of elite 2027 recruits who will be competing during Peach Jam. The group includes several of the nation’s highest-ranked players, highlighted by No. 1 overall prospect CJ Rosser, dynamic guard Adan Diggs, standout point guard Beckham Black, versatile wing DeMarcus Henry, combo guard King Gibson, center Lewis Uvwo, scoring guard Cayden Daughtry, forward Paul Osaruyi, wing Moussa Kamissoko, point guard NaVorro Bowman Jr., Kentucky commitment Ryan Hampton, Chase Lumpkin, Caleb Ourigou, and Jaxson Davis.
Other Kentucky targets will be playing on different shoe circuits around the country, including five-star guards Nasir Anderson and Reese Alston, along with Jordan Page, Darius Wabbington, Dawson Battie, and towering 7-foot-3 center Cherif Millogo.
Ryan Hampton Looking to Finish Strong
One of the biggest storylines for Kentucky fans will be the performance of Wildcat pledge Ryan Hampton.
Hampton began the EYBL season with LivOn before moving to Nightrydas midway through the circuit. The change immediately paid off as he became one of the league’s most productive scorers, averaging over 21 points per game during his first session with his new team.
His most recent outing, however, wasn’t nearly as efficient. His shooting percentages dipped, turnovers increased, and his scoring average slipped from second to sixth in the EYBL standings. Even so, Hampton remains among the circuit’s top offensive players.
With Mark Pope and Kentucky’s coaching staff expected to watch closely throughout Peach Jam, Hampton has an opportunity to remind everyone why he is considered one of the premier recruits in the country and finish his AAU season on a high note.
Reclassification Questions Continue
Another major topic throughout the week will be which prospects could accelerate their timelines and join the 2026 recruiting class.
Several highly ranked players have already chosen to reclassify, and more decisions are expected after Peach Jam concludes.
Kentucky target Caleb Ourigou has frequently been mentioned as a possible reclassification candidate, while Ryan Hampton was once considered another possibility before publicly stating he intended to remain in the 2027 class. Other highly regarded prospects, including Beckham Black, Reese Alston, Lewis Uvwo, Paul Osaruyi, and Darius Wabbington, have also been linked to similar discussions.
Should Kentucky eventually decide to fill its final scholarship spot for the upcoming season, those situations will be worth monitoring.
Battle for the Nation’s Best Point Guard
The point guard position may feature the deepest talent pool in the 2027 class.
Beckham Black, Reese Alston, Cayden Daughtry, Nasir Anderson, and NaVorro Bowman Jr. have all emerged as serious contenders for the title of the nation’s top floor general.
Kentucky has already offered each of them, giving Mark Pope multiple elite options as he builds for the future. Their performances at Peach Jam could significantly influence recruiting rankings and shape future recruiting battles.
Kentucky Also Looking Ahead to 2028
Although the primary focus remains on 2027, the Wildcats continue laying the foundation for future recruiting classes.
Kentucky has already extended offers to several standout 2028 prospects but is expected to evaluate additional rising stars throughout Peach Jam. Strong performances this week could easily result in new scholarship offers once the event concludes.
A Future Star Already on Kentucky’s Radar
Mark Pope has even begun recruiting beyond the 2028 class.
Kentucky recently offered 2029 standout JJ Crawford, the son of former NBA star Jamal Crawford. The young guard has impressed with his scoring ability and efficient shooting while competing at the 16U level and has quickly become one of the brightest long-term prospects in the country.
As Peach Jam unfolds, Kentucky’s coaching staff will have plenty to evaluate. Between strengthening relationships with current targets, identifying emerging talent, and tracking future stars, the Wildcats are using one of the year’s most important recruiting events to help shape the future of the program.
