As summer workouts continue in Lexington, the excitement surrounding Kentucky basketball is beginning to grow louder by the day. While the Wildcats won’t play a meaningful game for several more months, the early reports coming out of the Joe Craft Center have already given fans plenty to talk about.
And the biggest topic?
The sheer size, length, and versatility of Mark Pope’s 2026-27 roster.
Players have repeatedly mentioned the team’s length as one of its greatest strengths. Kentucky has size at virtually every position, featuring four seven-footers in the frontcourt and multiple wings standing 6-foot-7 or taller. In an era where versatility is becoming increasingly important, the Wildcats appear built to match up with anyone.
Sophomore center Malachi Moreno recently described length as the team’s biggest advantage. According to Moreno, Kentucky may not be the most physically imposing team in terms of bulk, but its ability to disrupt opponents with size and reach could become a major weapon throughout the season.
The backcourt is also drawing attention.
Zoom Diallo has continued generating buzz during workouts thanks to his athleticism, leadership, and ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. At 6-foot-6, Diallo brings unusual size to the guard position, giving Kentucky another matchup advantage that opponents will have to deal with.
Meanwhile, newcomers like Alex Wilkins, Kam Williams, and Braydon Hawthorne have already started turning heads with their combination of length and skill. Coaches and teammates have praised the group’s energy and willingness to compete, something that has helped create a highly competitive environment during practice.
The frontcourt might be the deepest area on the roster.
Moreno returns after choosing to withdraw from the NBA Draft and continue his development at Kentucky. Alongside him are Franck Kepnang, Ousmane N’Diaye, and Reece Potter, giving the Wildcats a collection of seven-footers capable of protecting the rim and controlling the glass.
Milan Momcilovic is another player generating plenty of excitement. The talented forward is expected to play a major role this season, and many believe his shooting ability and experience could make him one of Kentucky’s most important players.
What has impressed observers most, however, is the overall chemistry developing within the program.
Summer workouts are often focused on conditioning and skill development, but early reports suggest this group is already building strong connections on and off the court. Players have consistently spoken about the team’s work ethic, competitiveness, and willingness to embrace Mark Pope’s system.
That’s why the conversation around Kentucky continues to grow.
It’s not just one player making headlines. It’s the combination of talent, length, depth, and energy throughout the entire roster. Every practice seems to produce another positive report, another standout performance, or another reason for fans to believe this team could be special.
There is still a long way to go before the season begins, but one thing is becoming increasingly clear: something exciting is happening inside Kentucky’s summer workouts.
And judging by the growing buzz around the program, everyone is starting to notice.
