Kentucky fans had plenty to celebrate Saturday as both the basketball and football programs delivered major recruiting wins within hours of each other.
Mark Pope strengthened the Wildcats’ frontcourt by landing Washington transfer Franck Kepnang, while football coach Will Stein continued his recruiting momentum by securing a commitment from highly regarded wide receiver Iveon Lewis. The double commitment immediately sent Big Blue Nation into celebration mode across social media.
Franck Kepnang Gives Kentucky a Defensive Presence Inside
Kepnang, a 6-foot-11 center who spent last season at Washington, officially announced his commitment through Instagram before Kentucky confirmed the addition. The Cameroon native began his college career at Oregon before transferring to Washington, where he developed into one of the conference’s top rim protectors whenever healthy.
During the 2025 season, Kepnang appeared in 27 games and started 25 of them. He averaged 6.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.07 blocks per game, ranking among the Big Ten leaders in shot-blocking.
His ability to protect the rim and bring veteran experience immediately gives Kentucky added size and toughness in the paint heading into next season.
The biggest question surrounding Kepnang is eligibility. Because injuries limited him to shortened seasons earlier in his career, Kentucky is expected to pursue a waiver that would allow him to play a seventh collegiate season. Many around college basketball believe his injury history gives him a strong case for approval.
Will Stein Continues Kentucky Football’s Recruiting Surge
On the football side, Kentucky scored another impressive recruiting victory with the addition of Iveon Lewis, a four-star wide receiver from Richmond, Virginia.
Lewis chose Kentucky over several powerhouse programs, including Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Indiana, and Virginia Tech. The 6-foot-2 playmaker is ranked among the top prospects in Virginia and sits inside Rivals’ national top 250 rankings for the 2027 class.
Lewis has been one of the most productive receivers in high school football over the last two seasons, recording more than 1,000 receiving yards in consecutive years while averaging nearly 25 yards per catch. His explosive playmaking ability earned him First Team All-State honors as a junior.
The commitment also strengthens Kentucky’s future offensive core, as Lewis is expected to pair with highly regarded quarterback commit Jake Nawrot in the Wildcats’ 2027 recruiting class.
Big Blue Nation Celebrates Huge Day for Kentucky Athletics
From basketball to football, Kentucky fans flooded social media with excitement throughout the day. Adding a veteran shot-blocker like Kepnang gives Mark Pope another important piece for his roster, while Will Stein’s latest recruiting win continues to build optimism around the football program’s future.
Two major commitments in one day gave Big Blue Nation plenty to celebrate — and many fans believe more good news could still be on the way for Kentucky this offseason.
