Could Kentucky be closing in on a major transfer addition?
After leaving Lexington without making a commitment, many believed Donnie Freeman was still leaning toward UConn. The Huskies had long been viewed as the frontrunner and were even scheduled to host Freeman for a visit shortly after his Kentucky trip.
But plans have now changed.
Freeman has officially canceled his visit to UConn, and as of now, no other trips are locked in. Alabama is making a strong push to get him on campus next week, but the sudden shift has sparked growing speculation that Kentucky may now be in the driver’s seat.
That speculation gained even more traction when college basketball insider Jeff Goodman shared his “educated guess” that Freeman will ultimately choose the Wildcats.
If that prediction holds true, it would be a huge win for head coach Mark Pope, who is actively rebuilding Kentucky’s roster after a mass exodus to the transfer portal. Adding a talent like Freeman would immediately strengthen the Wildcats’ lineup and signal serious momentum in this roster rebuild.
Still, the recruitment isn’t over just yet.
Alabama remains a real threat, with head coach Nate Oats already making efforts to sway Freeman before his visit to Kentucky. Now, the key question becomes whether Kentucky can keep Freeman from taking that next trip to Tuscaloosa.
With momentum shifting quickly, a decision may not be far off—and Kentucky fans have plenty of reason to stay tuned.
