Four-star point guard Mason Williams announced his commitment to the University of Kentucky on Friday, giving head coach Mark Pope his first pledge in the 2026 recruiting class.
Williams is a 6-foot-2 point guard from Tennessee Collegiate Academy in Germantown, Tennessee. He is the son of former NBA All-Star and Cleveland Cavaliers champion Mo Williams, who is currently the head coach at Jackson State.
In the 247Sports Composite rankings, Williams is listed as the No. 110 overall prospect, the No. 12 point guard nationally, and the No. 3 player in Tennessee for the 2026 class. Rivals and On3 rank him No. 124 overall and the No. 16 point guard. ESPN ranks him as the No. 31 point guard.
During his most recent high school season, Williams averaged 15.1 points, 5.3 assists, and 4.3 rebounds per game. He shot 60.0% from the field and 41.2% from three-point range.
Williams was previously committed to Jackson State to play for his father but decommitted in December. He took an official visit to Lexington this week before announcing his decision.
Point guard depth was a concern for Kentucky during the 2024-25 season due to injuries to Lamont Butler, Kerr Kriisa, and Jaland Lowe. Pope told Sports Illustrated the 2026-27 roster needs multiple point guards who can play at a high level and stay healthy.
Williams is Kentucky’s only commitment in the 2026 class as of April 7. The transfer portal opened the same day. Kentucky has lost Otega Oweh, Denzel Aberdeen, Jaland Lowe, Mo Dioubate, Jasper Johnson, and Brandon Garrison to the portal or graduation this offseason.
Pope is continuing to recruit additional point guards from the transfer portal and remains in pursuit of 2026 five-star forward Tyran Stokes.
