Big Blue Nation can finally relax — the truth behind Jaland Lowe’s shoulder injury is far better than it looked on Friday night. After that scary moment during the Blue-White Game, the full story is out, and it explains exactly why Kentucky coaches aren’t hitting the panic button just yet.
Kentucky fans can finally exhale. According to Larry Vaught of Vaughts’ Views, the MRI on Jaland Lowe’s shoulder came back negative on Sunday morning — a huge sigh of relief for Big Blue Nation after the sophomore point guard’s injury scare at the Blue-White Game.
Lowe, who transferred from Pittsburgh and is expected to lead Kentucky’s backcourt this season, went down during Friday’s scrimmage after getting tangled up with Otega Oweh. The moment looked concerning, as he had to be helped off the floor and was heard telling trainers, “it popped out.”
Thankfully, further testing revealed that the injury was not a full dislocation. Vaught reported that Lowe’s shoulder didn’t completely come out of place — a sign that it’s more of a partial subluxation than a serious dislocation. Interestingly, the report also noted that this could be linked to a minor fall Lowe suffered back in June, which may have weakened the joint slightly.
While the MRI results are encouraging, Kentucky isn’t taking any chances. Lowe is unlikely to suit up for Friday’s high-profile exhibition against top-ranked Purdue. Still, all signs suggest this is just a short-term setback and not a major injury.
The Wildcats will likely turn to Denzel Aberdeen or Otega Oweh to handle point guard duties in Lowe’s absence. But with the MRI results coming back clean, Kentucky fans can rest easy knowing their floor general should be back in action soon — and just in time for the regular season.
