Two former University of Kentucky basketball standouts, Antonio Reeves and Chris Livingston, have been waived by their respective NBA teams. Reeves, a guard who was selected 47th overall in the 2024 NBA draft, was waived by the New Orleans Pelicans. During his rookie season, he averaged 6.9 points and 1.4 rebounds across 44 games, with a notable breakout performance scoring 34 points against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Pelicans had signed Reeves to a three-year, $5 million deal with a team option for the 2025-26 season, worth $1.96 million. However, with front office changes in New Orleans, the team opted not to guarantee his salary. Reeves spent significant time with the Birmingham Squadron in the G League but finished strong in the Pelicans’ final 12 games, averaging 14 points.
Meanwhile, Chris Livingston, a forward who was the 58th overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft, was waived by the Milwaukee Bucks. Livingston averaged 1.4 points and 1.7 rebounds in 21 games this past season. His contract had a non-guaranteed $2.22 million deal that would have triggered on July 15. He also played significant minutes with the Wisconsin Herd in the G League, showcasing his potential with a 25-point outing in January.
Both players are now free agents seeking new opportunities in the NBA. Given their strong college careers and flashes of pro potential, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see where these former Wildcats land next. The waiving of Livingston is believed to open up a roster spot for the Bucks, potentially paving the way for them to sign other free agents or re-sign Ryan Rollins.
With their futures uncertain, Reeves and Livingston will likely explore various options, including signing with other NBA teams or competing in the G League. Their performances in the upcoming season will be crucial in determining their future prospects in professional basketball.
