Former Duke basketball star Gary Trent Jr. has agreed to a two-year, $7.5 million contract to stay with the Milwaukee Bucks, with a player option in the second year. This move allows Trent to potentially explore new opportunities next summer when more teams are expected to have salary cap space.
Trent’s decision to return to the Bucks comes after a strong first season with the team, where he averaged 11.1 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. His 41.2% 3-point shooting was a notable improvement, marking his highest efficiency from downtown since his second year as a pro.
The contract uses the Non-Bird exception, allowing the Bucks to retain their full mid-level exception worth over $14 million. If Trent opts out of his contract after the first year, he could potentially earn up to $14.2 million per season in the future.
Trent’s consistent performance has been a valuable asset to the Bucks, and his return bolsters their perimeter shooting and provides additional depth in the backcourt. With this signing, the Bucks have secured key players, including Kevin Porter Jr. and Taurean Prince, who also agreed to two-year contracts.
