Trent Noah is staying loyal to the blue and white, even as one of his closest friends leaves the program.
Kentucky freshman standout and Harlan County native Trent Noah opened up this week about Travis Perry’s surprising decision to transfer from Kentucky to Ole Miss. Perry, a fellow in-state star and Kentucky high school basketball legend, made headlines when he announced his move after just one season in Lexington.
For Noah, the news hit hard.
> “It definitely stung,” he said. “I did everything I could to keep him here. He’s one of my good friends, and he was an excellent player. But at the end of the day, you’ve gotta do what’s best for you, and that’s what he thought was best for him. I love him and wish him the best. I’m not looking forward to playing him. That’s for sure.”
Noah and Perry leaned on each other throughout their freshman year, building a strong bond both on and off the court. While Perry opted for a fresh start with the Rebels, Noah made it clear that leaving Kentucky never crossed his mind.
> “No. Nah. This is the greatest place on earth,” Noah said emphatically. “I love Coach Pope’s vision for me, and he sees kind of the same path that I see. That’s what we’re looking to do this year, and on the way, win No. 9.”
With the Wildcats undergoing major roster changes under new head coach Mark Pope, Noah’s decision to stay adds much-needed continuity to the team. His leadership, toughness, and Kentucky roots continue to make him a fan favorite—and a potential breakout star in the coming season.
Meanwhile, a potential SEC showdown between Perry’s Ole Miss and Noah’s Wildcats could make for one of the most emotional matchups of the year, with friendship and rivalry colliding on the hardwood.
Kentucky fans will get their first look at Pope’s new roster this fall. And if Trent Noah has his way, the road to banner No. 9 starts now—with no looking back.
