The Los Angeles Lakers recently made a blockbuster trade to acquire Luka Doncic, a perennial All-NBA talent, from the Dallas Mavericks. However, the trade was reportedly made without consulting Doncic, leaving him stunned. The deal sent Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round pick to the Mavericks, with the Utah Jazz also involved in the transaction.
Doncic was not informed about the trade before it happened, with reports suggesting he was “stunned” by the news. Despite the initial shock, Doncic has since hinted at wanting a long-term run with the Lakers, responding with “hopefully” when asked about the possibility of getting a statue in his honor.
Doncic is set to sign a $229 million max extension over five years, but concerns have been raised about his desire to remain in LA, given he didn’t initiate the trade and wasn’t consulted. The Lakers attempted to trade for center Mark Williams, offering significant assets, to surround Doncic with a stronger roster.
The team wore jerseys with Doncic’s number 77 during warm-ups in his first game, and offered free Doncic jerseys to fans in attendance.
